Here is my interview with Astra from Astra On The Air from 92.3 AMP Radio NY and listen to her in the afternoon from 3pm - 7pm.
1. Where you from and where did you grow up?
Born and raised in NY!! I was born in NYC, and grew up on Long Island and now I'm back in NYC!
2. What inspired you to become a radio disc jockey?
I was a child model growing up, so being in the public eye was something that I truly enjoyed doing. My passion was to do television, however my big break came when I was working at a radio station, so I went with it...and the rest is history.
3. What is your favorite/ and worst part of radio and your job?
Everything about it is my favorite! There's nothing bad about it! I mean where else can you listen to music all day long, and talk about your favorite celebrities? It's like a win/win!
4. What is the best/ and worst thing that happened to you on the radio?
The best thing is being able to touch the lives of your listeners through your stories. It's always great when a listener comes up to you and relives something that you spoke about on air that clearly touched them. Sometimes I may not ever remember what they are talking about, but apparently it struck a chord with them that they wanted to re-live it with me.
The WORST thing that has ever happened is every radio persons nightmare - DEAD AIR! Ugh! No one ever wants to be "that person" that has dead air on the radio station...but it happens to the best of us.
5. What is your favorite song?
That's such a hard question to ask because it's forever changing. With all of the constant music coming out, it seems like we have a new song every week! So it wouldn't be fair for me to say which ones are my favorite today, because my answer may change tomorrow.
6. Do you get to meet any celebrities and which ones are your favorite?
Always! Doing interviews are one of my favorite things! Over the years, I've spoken with pretty much every big pop star out there! You're welcome to see tons of my celebrity photos on my facebook page - www.facebook.com/astraontheairfans

7. Was there any celebrity you met that changed your impression about them once your met them?
Everyone always goes into meeting another individual with some preconceived thoughts. From the bad press they may receive, to the encounters they may have had with fellow co-workers, everyone always has an opinion of someone (celebrity or "regular" person) I try not to allow those things to get in the way with my own encounter of a person. Just like you and I, celebrities have bad days too and maybe we get them on those days, or maybe we get them on their good days, but there have been many instances where I've met someone and they weren't very nice, but the next time I met them they were the sweetest person ever...and vice versa. It happens.
8. Where you want your career to take you in 10 years?
I am hoping to add television to my repertoire because I have always had a passion for being an on air television reporter - preferably in the entertainment industry. I'm not saying that I would leave radio, I would just love to add TV to my daily duties too!

When it comes to donating a kidney or any organ to a loved one because they are in need is something you would do to save their life, but what if a complete stranger asked you to. What would you do the same to help someone in need because they are struggling with their health. Well, Ari Sytner was that guy, who donated his kidney to someone in need and he is the author of his book, The Kidney Donor's Journey - 100 Questions I Asked Before Donating My Kidney and I had the honorable chance to meet him in person to talk about his book. He talks about what he had to go through, the process of deciding to go through it and ask himself all the questions that go through anyone's mind when taking on this responsibility. With 100,000 patient waiting for a kidney donation every year, Ari talks about the pros and cons and what it entails to become a donor and what he had to go through. It is the sacrifice of opening your heart and body to someone who does not have any other hope but you.
Ari Sytner is the author of The Kidney Donor's Journey - 100 Questions I Asked Myself Before Donating My Kidney but he is also a blogger, therapist, a social worker and so much more and he takes you on his journey becoming a kidney donor and giving someone a chance to live longer without being connected to dialysis and prolonging their life. It is something that no one really talks about when it comes to kidney or organ donation because it is a sensitive subject. There is a lot that goes into it, it is mentally, physically and spiritually challenging because it is taking a piece of you and giving it to someone who is in dyer need to survive. There is also, the aftermath of it being a success and bond you create with that recipient because they have a piece of you. Now you have one kidney, but they might not have any kidney functioning and it is their last resort to ask a stranger to save their life.
I find this book very eye opening, informative and inspiring because if I had the opportunity to give this gift to someone I would have to ask the same questions. Here is a link to his inspirational website http://www.kidneydonationguide.com/ to get more information about his book and maybe it will inspire you to save a life. Ever wish you could change your life or do something different to make your mark on the world, well that's the premise of the movie Seat25, where Faye Banks enters a contest after thinking that her life was just ordinary. However, Faye never expected to win and now she has a one way ticket to be on the first manned mission to Mars. She has to decide whether leaving her whole world behind is worth going on this mission to be apart of this colony on Mars. She has to go through the pros and cons about her life now on Earth and her life after she leaves for Mars. With Director Nicholas Agnew and Writer Madeleine Cooke, this moving quirky drama has been featured at film festivals in the UK like The Monkey Bread Tree Awards Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize as Best Feature Film and Best Feature Film made for less than $5000. It is hitting a limited amount of cinemas in the UK in 2017 and maybe going further. With the innovation of the company MarsOne, attempting to make this a reality, there is a possibility that this could be in our future, so it opens up a world of possibilities. If you won a one way ticket to Mars, would you go and how would it affect your life? So if you have a chance to check out this film, I would highly recommend it because it will leave you with a positive vibe and wondering what if.
